Kelsey Mitchell’s Career Night Fuels Fever’s Stunning OT Comeback

Kelsey Mitchell delivered a career-high-tying 38 points, including 34 after halftime, as the Indiana Fever erased a 21-point deficit to stun the Connecticut Sun 99-93 in overtime on Sunday.

Mitchell scored every point in Indiana’s 10-4 burst to open overtime, draining back-to-back threes to seize momentum before Lexie Hull buried a corner triple with 44.9 seconds left to push the lead to 97-90.

The Fever (19-16) leaned on strong all-around performances beyond Mitchell’s heroics. Odyssey Sims posted 19 points and seven assists, Natasha Howard added 18 points, and Aliyah Boston filled the stat sheet with 14 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and two blocks.

For Connecticut (6-27), Marina Mabrey led with 27 points, while veteran Tina Charles added 21. Saniya Rivers scored 15 and swatted a career-best five shots, Aneesah Morrow tallied 10 points and 11 rebounds, and rookie Leïla Lacan dished a season-high 14 assists.

The Sun appeared in control after Morrow’s layup midway through the third stretched the lead to 54-33. They were still ahead 74-60 with just over six minutes left in regulation before Mitchell’s late surge brought Indiana back. Her three-point play tied the score at 82 with 44.7 seconds left. After Charles answered with a turnaround jumper, Boston responded with a short jumper to force overtime.

Indiana also had to overcome adversity. Sophie Cunningham exited in the second quarter with a knee injury and did not return, while rookie star Caitlin Clark (groin) missed her 13th straight game.

The Sun return to action Tuesday against the Washington Mystics. The Fever host the Minnesota Lynx on Friday.
