BJP Turns Tables on SIR Row, Says ‘Rahul Gandhi Aims to Protect His ‘Ghuspaithiye’ Voter Base’
GLOBAL EVENTS

On Wednesday, the BJP unleashed a sharp attack on Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of “peddling lies” to shield “ghuspaithiye voters” and undermine the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, as the Congress’ clash with the Election Commission continues.
On Wednesday, the BJP launched a fierce counterattack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his criticism of the Election Commission, accusing him of “spreading lies” to safeguard “ghuspaithiye voters” and discredit the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
“Rahul Gandhi wants to save his ghuspaithiye voters. They spread rumours, defend illegal voters, and oppose the SIR, which is meant to protect the rights of genuine Indian voters,” BJP MP Anurag Thakur said at a press conference.
Taking a dig at Gandhi’s political track record, Thakur remarked, “If there’s a record of losing elections 90 times under one leader, it’s under Rahul Gandhi. Even his own party questions his leadership. Whenever he loses, he blames EVMs or the voters themselves.”
Thakur further accused Congress of frequently changing its stance on electronic voting machines. “First, they claimed EVMs were rigged in BJP’s favour. Then they demanded a return to ballot papers. Later, they alleged EVMs could be hacked remotely. After every defeat, Congress invents a new excuse instead of introspecting. They keep targeting EVMs, the Election Commission, and other constitutional bodies,” he alleged.
According to Thakur, the Congress, sensing defeat in the Bihar elections, is “already working with opposition parties to level false charges.” Referring to recent remarks from Congress leaders, he quipped, “Yesterday, some Congress leaders said Rahul Gandhi and opposition leaders created a bawandar (storm). It’s not a storm — it’s a blunder. I would tell Rahul ji — the dust was on your face, but you kept cleaning the mirror.”
Thakur also claimed that the Election Commission had invited Rahul Gandhi for talks, but “he didn’t attend, offered no evidence, and filed no complaint with the Bihar CEO about alleged manipulation.” He described the Congress MP as “a habitual liar” who follows a “shoot and scoot” approach. Citing the KN Rajanna episode, he added, “Internal democracy in Congress is dead.”
Rajanna, who resigned as Karnataka’s Cooperation Minister after criticising his party over voter fraud in Bengaluru’s Mahadevapura constituency, had admitted, “The voter list was prepared when our own government was in power. These irregularities happened in front of us, and we should feel ashamed. One person was registered in three different places and voted in all three. When the draft rolls were prepared, we should have objected — that was our responsibility. Instead, we stayed silent, and now we’re speaking.”
His statement reportedly angered the Congress high command, which has been accusing the Election Commission of “vote theft” in Bihar over the SIR process.
